We’re pleased to introduce Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) into our fleet. This innovative fuel significantly reduces carbon emissions while maintaining operational efficiency which reinforces our commitment to sustainability.

By Alastair Lovell, Head of Sustainable Development at Calor

What is HVO?

HVO is a renewable, biodegradable alternative to Diesel. It’s made from certified waste materials meaning net CO2 emissions are reduced by up to 90%1. HVO also has approval from sustainability schemes2.

A seamless transition

Our teams worked closely with vehicle manufacturers and our chosen supplier, Crown Oil3. Working together ensured a smooth rollout across our fleet with minimal operational impacts.

Coryton was the first filling plant to switch over to HVO, which marked the beginning of a nationwide rollout. And today, 12 of our sites – from Inverness to Newbury, Grangemouth, and Plymouth are now running eligible vehicles on HVO.

Already making a difference

Switching to HVO is already delivering tangible benefits:

  • Lower carbon footprint – estimated 9,500-tonne carbon reduction in 20251
  • Reduced environmental risks - easier to clean up in the event of a spill compared to Diesel.
  • No vehicle modifications needed – refuelling is no different to using Diesel.

A commitment beyond today...

As we continue to invest in sustainable solutions we will ensure a lasting impact for our customers, and the planet. At Calor, we're driving our sustainability goal forward.
