What you need to know: Aboveground tank

An aboveground LPG tank is the easiest bulk LPG storage solution. We install the gas tank on a concrete hard standing base.

  • The tank must be 3 metres from buildings, boundaries, sources of ignition, unsealed drains and gullies**.
  • There needs to be a good line of sight*** and access to and around the tank for when we top the tank up.
  • Our aboveground tanks come in various capacity sizes, the most standard sizes being 1200L and 2000L. Speak to us for tank dimensions.

What you need to know: Underground tank

Underground LPG tanks are your most discrete bulk LPG storage option, simply because they are hidden underground. Requirements are very similar to our aboveground tank option..

  • We'll need 3 metres around the tank lid for safety and access**.
  • The tank lid is 1m in diameter and sits to ground level. And needs to be kept accessible*** for when we top the tank up.
  • Like the Aboveground storage option, underground tanks come in various capacity sizes but our popular two are 2100L and 4000L. Our experts will advise on the right size for your energy needs.

No space for a tank? Choose LPG cylinders instead

What you need to know: Cylinders

If space is an issue, either practically or your taste, then cylinders are the answer. Discrete, secure, safe, they’re a great LPG storage solution.

  • An automatic changeover valve can be installed which means your bottle automatically switches over**** to a new one when it becomes empty.
  • Cylinders can be installed in a recommended container or can be free-standing.
  • For safety cylinders must be 1m from windows, sheds and doors. And must be 2m from any sources of ignition.
  • Gas bottles come in various KG sizes, what bottle you need is determined on factors like what the LPG is going to be used for and estimated consumption. Our team are on board to help and advise you.

Installing and looking after your LPG tank

Site survey with calor engineer

Installing your LPG gas tank

Ask us for a quote, we’ll call to chat through the options, where and how you’d like your LPG tank installed. After that, one of our specialists will pop over to complete a site survey, and then, if all goes well paperwork will get completed and it’s installation time.

Your tank installed your way

You have options when it comes to the installation. Under or aboveground tank, we can complete the full install. Or, you can opt to complete your own groundwork like installing the base for the tank and digging the trench for the pipework route, we have guides to help you do just that.

Calor LPG tank check and maintenance

Post-install: Care and maintenance of your LPG tank

Looking after your tank couldn't be easier, we do it! When it's time we'll contact you to book your tank check. When we top it up we'll always check the tank over. But if something doesn't look right, contact us.

What if a tank doesn't work for you?

Simple answer, gas cylinders

If there's limited space for a tank or you aren't going to use much gas then cylinders are for you. As with bulk tanks, they come in a range of sizes and the set-up is easy too.

As with all LPG installations, you'll need a Gas Safe registered LPG engineer for the initial cylinder setup which includes pipework, external connections and any internal works. Ask us or your engineer about the automatic change-over valve***. It's simple!
Gas cylinders come in a range of sizes, including 19kg and 47kg. If we deliver directly to your door, you'll be able to set up an account directly with us. Then just give us a call when you need your bottles exchanging. There are some areas we don't deliver direct to but we'll have a stockist or retailer local and on hand to deliver to you.
A gas cylinder system can be as big or as small as you need. Four bottles will do the job for the full supply of a house (heating, hot water, and cooking)! If you only want the gas to cook or smaller usage then you probably only need two 47kgs gas bottles. Speak to our team to discuss your supply and account set-up today!
Our gas bottles are a versatile solution for many commercial uses - no matter how big or small the supply you may need is. Talk to our expert team to work out the right solution for you; we'll be able to set up your account over the phone or get you in touch with your local rep.

*Subject to site survey; before the paperwork is finalised for a bulk tank installation we will always conduct a site survey with our expert teams.

**Space and access; If the area where you/we are looking to install the tank and pipework does not meet the required access regulations then there are options we can look at. For example, one side of the tank can be reduced to 1.5m with the use of a suitably designed 'firewall'. We advise that such a firewall should be specified by an energy specialist. Note: the other three sides surrounding the tank must have a 3m clearance.

***Delivery access and Line of sight; Your tank always needs to be accessible - this requires a minimum access road and gateway width of 2.75m, safe access for our driver to get from the delivery vehicle to the tank and a direct line of sight for the driver to be able to see the delivery vehicle whilst standing at the tank. The max hose length on our vehicles is 42m.

****Cylinder change-over valve; If a cylinder set up consists of 2 or more bottles, you can get a change-over valve installed. So, when one bottle runs down and becomes empty the supply will automatically switch to the next bottle in the set-up, (You can use it as a good indicator to know when to get your next delivery scheduled).
